Midland CT590 frequency extender (RX/TX unlock)

Recently I bought a MIDLAND CT590 VHF/UHF (C1317), which is a portable radio station for radio amateurs.

Out of the box, the radio station supports the following frequencies:

144-146MHz VHF 
430-440MHz UHF

Personally, I needed this radio station to talk to other PMR radios, which are on the 446.XXX frequencies. Therefore I had to unlock my radio station (remove the limitations) in order to be allowed to transmit on the 446 band. Unfortunately, there was no public tutorial for this radio station, so I decided to write one:

Nelle radio CT590 sara possibile cambiare/estendere la banda operativa della radio tramite questa semplice procedura:

Allargamento range ricezione e trasmissione:

• Accendere la radio tenendo premuto il tasto 1. Lo schermo LCD mostrerà la voce “set”.
• Premere MENU, il display mostrerà in basso l’attuale range di frequenza in VHF.
• Inserire la banda operativa desiderata, ad esempio se si vuole lavorare da 136 a 174MHZ in VHF inserire il codice “136174”. Attenzione: a seguito dell’introduzione di ogni singola cifra occorre premere il tasto “menu” per poter inserire la cifra successiva.
• Al termine dell’inserimento del range di frequenza in VHF premere menu per passare alle UHF.
• Inserire la banda operativa desiderata, ad esempio se si vuole lavorare da 400 a 520 MHZ in UHF inserire il codice “400520”. Attenzione: a seguito dell’introduzione di ogni singola cifra occorre premere il tasto “menu” per poter inserire la cifra successiva.
• Al termine della procedura premere “menu” per confermare.
• Attendere il boot della radio.

To unlock the MIDLAND CT590, it is necessary to follow these steps:

RX/TX unlock:
